1. Overview of Grief Practice Institute
1.1. Grief Practice Institute is an education and training business, specialising in grief literacy and practice skills building, and professional supervision and case consultation services, aimed at mental health practitioners, counsellors and healthcare professionals. Grief Practice Institute does not provide grief counselling services, and our programs are not appropriate for the general public or for grieving individuals who are seeking support.
1.2. Grief Practice Institute was designed to provide high quality, evidence-based content to Professionals who work with grieving and bereaved clients.
2. Terms and Conditions of Purchase (Agreement)
2.1. This section constitutes the Terms and Conditions of Purchase (Agreement) between The Company, the Program, and its facilitators (“Us”, “We”, or “Our”) and you (“the Client”, “the Participant”).
2.2. The Grief Practice Institute and the Client agree that successful participation in the Program requires that both Client and the Company fulfil their obligations.
2.3. The Grief Practice Institute agrees to:
2.3.1 Communicate with client honestly and promptly;
2.3.1. Facilitate the Program to the highest standard for the client, in a safe and ethical manner; and
2.3.2. Respond in a timely manner to questions and feedback from the Client with respect to the Program, its contents, and operations.
2.4. The Client agrees:
2.4.1. To communicate with the Grief Practice Institute honestly and promptly;
2.4.2. Engage in the Program to the fullest extent possible;
2.4.3. Be open to the coaching and guidance of the facilitators of the Program in order to achieve the greatest benefit from the Program;
2.4.4. That they understand the degree of success in the Program is dependent on their commitment and consistency;
2.4.5. They are solely responsible for implementing any techniques or changes recommended by the Program and its facilitators;
2.4.6. They understand every individual is different, and the Program and its facilitators cannot guarantee any particular result or outcome will be achieved through the client’s participation in the Program; and
2.4.7. They enter into the Program at their own risk.
2. Structure of Grief Practice Institute
2.1. Grief Practice Institute provides online learning and training programs and services.
2.2. The flagship program “The Grief Literacy and Practice Blueprint” course is delivered over 4 weeks. Weekly program content includes online self-paced learning modules, self-assessment and reflective exercises, an assessment component, and an online live facilitated group Q& A session. Participant numbers are capped at a maximum of 15 per each program run
2.3. Grief Practice Institute Programs have been developed using evidence-based grief literature and research, and assessment and skills-based learning activities designed to facilitate implementation in clinical practice work with grieving and bereaved clients.
2.3.1. Online learning modules are delivered weekly for self-paced completion by program participants, and a weekly 1 hour online live Q&A session provide opportunity for group discussion and case studies to integrate module learnings with practice skills.
2.3.2. Program content will be available for participants to access for 6 months after the program end date, and participants can complete course assessments and obtain a certificate of completion at any stage within the post-course 6 month period. Access to program content includes recorded Q&A sessions.
Application of Terms and Conditions of Purchase
3. Relationship with Healthy Life Psychology
3.1. Samantha McDonnell is an accredited mental health social worker and provides mental health/grief and bereavement clinical counselling in a private practice capacity, with visibility on the Healthy Life Psychology website (www.healthylifepsychology.com.au).
3.2. Grief Practice Institute is operated by Samantha McDonnell.
3.3. While Samantha McDonnell is an accredited mental health social worker, the Grief Practice Institute is not a mental health counselling service.
3.4. The education and training programs offered by Grief Practice Institute is a non-clinical service.
3.5. By consenting to participate in the Grief Practice Institute programs, participants acknowledge that they are participating in an education and training program and are not receiving mental health/grief and bereavement counselling services from Samantha McDonnell.
3.6. To avoid any potential conflicts of interest arising, clients of Samantha McDonnell cannot be accepted as participants in any of the Grief Practice Institute Programs within at least 2 years of cessation of mental health/grief and bereavement counselling services provided by Samantha McDonnell.
3.7. Similarly, participants in any Grief Practice Institute Programs cannot be accepted as counselling clients of Samantha McDonnell within a minimum of 6 months of completion of a Grief Practice Institute Program.
3.8. Any requests for cross-referral or registration between former clients of Samantha McDonnell and Grief Practice Institute programs will be assessed on a case-by-case basis, and will only be accepted at Samantha McDonnell’s discretion, depending on the individual circumstances.
3.9. If in the course of participating in the Grief Practice Institute program, issues arise which in Samantha McDonnell’s professional opinion are beyond the scope of the program education and training relationship, a participant may be advised to see their GP and obtain a referral to consult with an appropriate clinician.
3.10. Samantha McDonnell may at any time and in their sole discretion, terminate a participant’s registration in a Grief Practice Institute’s Program if Samantha McDonnell considers it appropriate to do so. In the event of termination of a participant’s registration in the Grief Practice Institute Program on this basis, a partial refund of the participant’s registration fees may be provided.
4. Privacy and Disclosure of Personal Information
4.1. As part of your participation in the Grief Practice Institute Program, Grief Practice Institute needs to collect and record information from you.
4.2. We enclose a copy of our Privacy Policy, which we request you read and acknowledge your understanding of, prior to signing this document.
5. Participant Confidentiality
5.1. Grief Practice Institute takes reasonable measures to maximise participant confidentiality.
5.2. Limitations to confidentiality exist within aspects of our program format, including where participants elect to display their legal name, and/or enable their camera and microphone as part of their engagement in live online Q&A sessions.
5.3. Where participants have been invited to join a dedicated program Facebook group, participants will be required to agree to confidentiality and respectful communication practices.
5. Technology Requirements
5.1. Grief Practice Institute programs are provided online through our website portal and by videoconferencing. You are responsible for the costs associated with setting up the technology needed so you can access online content and participate in video conferencing workshops.
5.2. To access Grief Practice Institute program content, you will need access to a computer, video camera, speakers, and a private room or quiet space
5.3. The privacy of any form of communication via the internet is potentially vulnerable and limited by the security of the technology used.
6. Conditions of Purchase and Intellectual Property
6.1. While Grief Practice Institute Programs are intended to help increase participant's knowledge of contemporary, evidence-based grief theory, assessment tools, and skills to support integration into their practice work with grieving and bereaved clients, individual results may vary, and no specific outcomes are guaranteed for program participations.
6.2 Grief Practice Institute’s Website, and Grief Practice Institute’s Programs and all content provided within, is the intellectual property of Grief Practice Institute.
6.3. The reproduction, exploitation, redistribution or use of all or part of any visual, auditory or software element or document from Grief Practice Institute’s Website or Grief Practice Institute’s Programs is prohibited.
7. Fees
7.1. Fees for Grief Practice Institute Programs are as displayed on the Greif Practice Institute Website. The fee amount is inclusive of GST. Program fees are charged at the point of purchase of a Grief Practice Institute Program.
7.2. Case Consultation and Clinical Supervision Services are displayed on the Grief Practice Institute website. The fee amount is inclusive of GST. Case Consultation or Clinical Supervision fees are charged at the point of booking a session.
8. Cancellation & Refund Policy
8.1. Grief Practice Institute will grant a refund of the registration fee paid by any participant, within 72 hours prior to the commencement date of the Grief Practice Institute program.
8.2. After the commencement of the course, full or partial refund of the registration fee will be granted at the discretion of Grief Practice Institute, and ordinarily only in circumstances where a participant’s registration is terminated by Grief Practice Institute in accordance with the terms of Part 3.
